Maria Vasilaki
Maria Vasilaki is an Associate Professor of Byzantine Art History in the Department of History, Archaeology, and Social Anthropology at the School of Humanities, University of Thessaly. Additionally, as a scientific collaborator with the Benaki Museum, she organized the program "Painters' Work Plans after the Fall," which focuses on the study, research, and final publication of the folders of cartoons and drawings of post-Byzantine painters, preserved and owned by the Benaki Museum. She also organized the exhibition "Mother of God: Representations of the Virgin Mary in Byzantine Art" (October 2000 - January 2001) for the Benaki Museum. She has edited monographs such as "The Portrait of the Artist in Byzantium," University of Crete Press, Heraklion 1997; "Byzantine Icons: Art, Technique, Technology," University of Crete Press, Heraklion 2002; "Images of the Mother of God: Perceptions of the Theotokos in Byzantium," Ashgate Aldershot 2005, among others. Her studies on Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting have been published in Greek and international scientific journals.
