Marika THomadaki

Marika Thomadaki was born in Athens and studied History-Archaeology and French Philology at the University of Athens. She holds a Ph.D. from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in Theatre Semiotics. She is a professor of theatre theory and semiotics at the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her research theoretically advances theatre studies, with a clear focus on performance studies, as a discipline that deeply analyzes phenomena of theatrical practice. She is the founder and president of the Center for Theatre Semiotics and the editor-in-chief of the journal "Theatrografies." As a theatre critic, she contributes articles to newspapers and theatre magazines in Greece and abroad and collaborates with foreign universities and international theatre study centers. For several years, she has been teaching as a visiting professor at the theatre workshop of the University of Avignon.
