Georgios CHatzopoulos

Georgios Chatzopoulos (Patmos, 1859 - Athens, 1935) studied painting in Munich, where he apprenticed under Nikolaos Gyzis from 1883 to 1887, the year he returned to Greece. In 1891, he was appointed as a professor at the Hellenic Military Academy and in 1910 became a conservator at the National Gallery. He participated in group exhibitions in Athens ("Parnassos" 1901 - 1905, Hellenic Art Society 1907) and Alexandria (1905). He is considered one of the pioneering Greek landscape painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work incorporated the innovative elements of German Impressionism.
