Matthaios Giosafat

Matthaios Yiossafats graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1963 and specialized in Neurology-Psychiatry in 1967. He pursued further studies in London, where he remained for fifteen years. There, he obtained various diplomas in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry through examinations (Diploma in Psychological Medicine, the highest Diploma in Psychiatry from the College of Psychiatrists, etc.). He was appointed director at the National Health Service (Finchley Child and Family Psychiatric Center in London). He taught at the Tavistock Centre and the University of London (Medical Postgraduate Centre) as a Senior Lecturer. He completed formal five-year training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and four-year training in Group Analysis and Family Therapy. Upon returning to Greece, he was appointed director of the Attica Child Psychiatric Hospital. He co-founded the Hellenic Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, which trains individuals in psychoanalytic therapy, and the Hellenic Society of Group Analysis and Family Therapy, where he serves as president and director of its Training Institute. He is a regular member of many international scientific societies and has contributed to numerous scientific books and articles. He has been invited to speak at many international centers (University of Oxford, London School of Economics, etc.) as well as at numerous hospitals, scientific centers, and the Megaron Plus lecture series. He is also a co-founder of the Hellenic Society of Child Psychiatry, where he was elected as the first President.
