Giannis CHamilakis

Yannis Hamilakis is a Professor of Archaeology at the University of Southampton and co-director of the archaeological and ethnographic research project at Koutroulou Magoula in Phthiotis. He studied at the University of Crete and the University of Sheffield, and taught for four years (1996-2000) at the University of Wales, Lampeter. He serves on the editorial board of several journals, including the Journal of Mediterranean Archaeology, Forum Kritische Archaologie, Archaeologies: The Journal of the World Archaeological Congress, the Journal of Contemporary Archaeology, and the Classical Receptions Journal. His research interests focus on the archaeology of the body and the senses, the political and social role of antiquity and archaeology today, and Aegean prehistory. His recent publications include the books "The Nation and its Ruins: Antiquity, Archaeology and National Imagination in Greece" (2007, Edmund Keeley Book Prize, Modern Greek Studies Association) and "Archaeological Ethnographies" (2009, edited with A. Anagnostopoulos).
