Sokratis D. Petmezas

Sokratis Petmezas was born in Athens in 1957. He is a professor of economic and social history of the Modern Era at the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Crete, where he has been teaching since 1990. He studied economics in Thessaloniki and history in Paris. He defended his doctoral dissertation titled "Recherches sur l'economie et le finances des villages du Pelion, region d'industries rurales, ca. 1750-1850" at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris in October 1989. He has published numerous articles on contemporary economic and social history in Greek, French, English, and Spanish, as well as the monograph titled "The Greek Agricultural Economy in the 19th Century: The Regional Dimension," Heraklion, 2003 (University of Crete Press). Additionally, he edited the collective volume "Prolegomena to the History of the Greek Agricultural Economy of the Interwar Period," Athens, 2012 (Alexandria Publications).
