Hart Crane

Born on July 21, 1899, he is considered the most inspired and talented poet of his generation and one of the leading American poets of the past century, although critics have always been divided about the value of his work. He was characterized as a forerunner of the Beat Generation. Shortly before noon on April 27, 1932, Crane committed suicide by jumping into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico while returning to America by ship.
