Giorgos Papakonstantinou

George Papaconstantinou was born in Athens in 1961 and studied Economics in the United Kingdom and the USA, earning his PhD from the London School of Economics. He worked at the OECD in France and returned to Greece after twenty years of studying and working abroad. He was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2007, served as the spokesperson for PASOK, and was the head of PASOK's list for the European Parliament in 2009. In October 2009, he was appointed Minister of Finance in the government of George Papandreou, where he played a crucial role in managing the Greek crisis. He is married and has two children.
