Eleni Mpourantani

Eleni Bourantani was born in Piraeus in 1976. She holds a degree from the Department of English Language and Literature, as well as a master's degree in Translation Studies from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Since 2000, she has been working as an English language teacher in secondary education. In 1997, she attended her first creative writing seminar at the University of Athens (Department of English Language and Literature) under the inspiring guidance of Professor Liana Sakelliou-Schultz, and she continued to attend several more in the following years. Her short story "Umbilical Myth"—created during this initial creative writing seminar—was awarded in October 2006. Several of her translations have been published, including the poetry collection "The Owl's Feather in the Mouse's Heart" by Timothy Jennings (Futura, Athens 2002), the essay "Assassins: A Treatise on Their Dynasty and the Etymology of Their Name" by Silvestre de Sacy (Futura, Athens 2004), and the travel book "101 Weekends in Europe" (Electra, Athens 2008). She also participated in the "Klandestini Project for Emerging Writers in the Mediterranean Region" seminar, organized in 2004 by the British Council. Additionally, she has collaborated with the online poetry magazine www.e-poema.eu and has presented her work on the theory and practice of translation at conferences.
