Georgios I. Sourlas

Georgios Sourlas was born in Velestino, Magnesia. He is a surgeon, ophthalmologist, and holds a Ph.D. from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has been elected as a Member of Parliament nine times with the New Democracy party. From 1990 to 1992, he served as the Minister of Health, Welfare, and Social Security. In 2004, he was elected as the Second Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament and in 2007 as the First Vice President. From 2012 to 2015, he served as the Secretary General for Transparency and Human Rights at the Ministry of Justice. He is the President of the Institute for Inter-Balkan Cooperation "Rigas Velestinlis" and the Association of Children, Relatives, and Friends of the Fallen during the 1940-41 Epic.
