
CHaralampos Platias
Charalampos Platias is an Assistant Professor at Panteion University, in the Department of International, European, and Regional Studies, specializing in International and European Governance for the Environment and Sustainable Development. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science, focusing on European Integration, Politics, and Governance, from the University of Bonn (Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn) and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Studies from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.
He served as Director of Port Policy (2018-2019) and Head of the Port Policy Department (2013-2018) at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, where he worked since 2003 as a Special Scientist in the General Secretariat of Ports and Port Policy, specializing in European and international issues concerning ports and port policy. He teaches undergraduate courses in the History, Structure, and Functioning of the EU, International Law and Policy for Environmental Protection, EU Law and Policy for Environmental Protection, and Organization of the EU. At the postgraduate level, he teaches European Public Policy I and II: Policy Formulation and Implementation, EU Policy for Environment and Energy, and Law, Policy, and Governance for Climate Change. Since 2001, he has taught related subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Panteion University and European Port Policy at the postgraduate level at the University of Piraeus.
He has published three books, the first on EU regional policy as a policy of integration, the second on EU environmental policy co-authored with Professor Grigoris Tsaltas, and the current one on policy and governance issues of EU policy for the environment and sustainable development. He has also co-edited a collective volume on the Union for the Mediterranean. Additionally, he has published numerous scientific articles and contributions to collective volumes in various fields and issues related to European and international policy and governance for the environment and sustainable development, European transport policy and ports, maritime spatial planning, among others. He has participated in numerous conferences and research projects on these topics. He has been a collaborator of the European Center for Environmental Research and Training (EKEPEK) at Panteion University since 2002, participating in the design and organization of numerous conferences, workshops, events, research projects, and many interdisciplinary seminars on the environment and sustainable development.
He has served as a member of the Peer Review Group in various EU co-funded projects and actions within the framework of the Trans-European Transport Network and the “Horizon 2020” program, such as “Monitoring and Operation Services for Motorways of the Sea” (2011/2012), “Business to Motorways of the Sea” (2014/2015), “Multidimensional, integrated, risk assessment framework and dynamic, collaborative risk management tools for critical information infrastructures” (H2020, 2016/2018), and the “PIXEL - Port IoT for Environmental Leverage” (H2020). He is a member of the Hellenic Society of International Law & International Relations (EEDDD).
