Eyagelos Karamanes

Evangelos Karamanes was born in Evangelismos, Larissa, in 1967. He studied Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He pursued postgraduate studies in folklore and social anthropology at the same faculty (Postgraduate Diploma, 1994), and in ethnology and social anthropology at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris (D.E.A. 1994, Ph.D. 1999). He is a Research Director at the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre of the Academy of Athens, where he has been a researcher since 2002, and has been directing the Centre since 2014. He has conducted folklore missions for field research mainly in the regions of Grevena, Aspropotamos Trikala, and Lefkada, among others (Crimea, Andros, Larissa, etc.). He has worked on the editing of publications and the Yearbook of the Folklore Centre, the digitization and documentation of the Folklore Archive's material, the curation of its web portal and digital repositories, the development of digital applications, and more. He is the scientific supervisor of publications and research projects. He has participated in organizing conferences and exhibitions with folklore themes. His scientific interests include material culture, traditional diet, techniques, local identity, folk calendar, and the management of digital cultural heritage. His writings have been published in Greek and international collective editions.
