Argyris L. Adamidis

Argyris Adamidis is an emeritus professor at the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki. Born in Serres, he received his primary and secondary education in this city and continued with basic economic studies and a doctoral degree at the University of Thessaloniki. He furthered his education with postgraduate training in Norway and Britain. He spent many years working in the oil industry. In 1978, he resigned to become a full-time professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Patras, and from 1980 at the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, from which he retired. Since 1969, as a radio amateur (call signs SV1DV and SV2DV) and later as a collector, he has been involved with radio and its evolutionary journey from the early 20th century to the present day, gathering representative samples from all eras as well as historical material. Since the early 2000s, he has been engaged with issues related to the evolution of radio technology, computing machines, television, and sound recording/reproduction. Another activity parallel to his interest in radio is the collection of old electronic computers and related materials.
