Lina G. Mendoni
Lina G. Mendoni was born in Athens in 1960. She graduated from Arsakeio Psychikou in 1977, received her degree from the Department of Classics at the University of Athens in 1981, and from the Department of History and Archaeology of the same university in 1984. In 1988, she was awarded a doctorate from the University of Athens. She has participated in archaeological programs, surface surveys, and systematic excavations conducted by the University of Athens and the Ministry of Culture. From 1983 to 1988, she worked as a scientific collaborator for the Southern Greece Program of the Center for Greek and Roman Antiquity (KERA) at the National Hellenic Research Foundation. In 1987, she led an interdisciplinary team for archaeological research in Kea, Cyclades. In June 1989, she joined the research staff of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (KERA) and followed the legally prescribed career progression. In 1998, she was elected to the rank of Principal Researcher. From 1995 to 1998, she led the interdisciplinary program "History of the Landscape and Local Histories: From the Natural Environment to the Cultural Landscape." She has been a member of the German Archaeological Institute and numerous Greek and international scientific organizations. Between 1994 and 1999, she served as a special scientific advisor at the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works, and the Ministry of the Aegean. From March 1999 to March 2004 and December 2009 to January 2015, she held the position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. In July 2019, she assumed the role of Minister of Culture and Sports in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. She has been honored with the Commendatore (II Class) Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity by the Italian Republic.
