Giannis Mpakogiannopoulos

Giannis Bakogiannopoulos was born in Athens in 1934. He studied law and political science at the University of Athens and completed a film internship under Henri Langlois, the founder of the French Cinematheque, in Paris during the era of the Nouvelle Vague and the magazine "Cahiers du Cinema," alongside the theatrical works of J. Genet, S. Beckett, and E. Ionesco, and the prominent French thinkers Barthes, Foucault, Lacan, and Derrida. He filmed and participated in documentary films. He was a member of the "Asty" film club, founded in 1950 by the Greek Film Archive, Eleni Vlachou, Marios Ploritis, and Aglaia Mitropoulou—the driving force behind the effort. Later, he worked as a journalist and film critic for various magazines, "Kathimerini" newspaper, radio, and television ("Film Club" on ERT). Between 1993 and 2004, he served as a Special Film Advisor to the Minister of Culture. He has written hundreds of articles and studies in collective books, newspapers, and magazines, as well as film entries in encyclopedias.
