Donald H. Baucom

Donald H. Baucom is a professor and the director of clinical psychology at the Department of Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1976. Since then, he has conducted research on couples covering a wide range of topics. He has carried out studies assessing the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral couple therapy. Additionally, he conducts intervention studies aimed at preventing crises in newlywed couples and interventions for couples with health issues. He has received numerous awards for his teaching and holds a prestigious position at the University of North Carolina. He is a member of the American Psychology Association, a diplomate of the American Board of Assessment Psychology, and a founding member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, he frequently organizes workshops and lectures for professionals and the general public. Throughout his career, he has actively worked as a clinician, both with couples and individually with adults. Together with Norman B. Epstein, he began their research and collaboration in the early 1980s, and beyond their friendship, they have enjoyed contributing to empirical, theoretical, and clinical literature.
