Fanis I. Kakridis

Theofanis (Fanis) I. Kakridis (1933-2019) was a professor of classical philology at the University of Ioannina. He was born in Athens, the son of the distinguished classicist Ioannis Th. Kakridis and philologist Olga Komninou-Kakridis. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and pursued postgraduate studies in classical philology at the Universities of Mainz and Tübingen in Germany, where he taught as a lecturer of ancient and modern Greek. In 1964, he was appointed professor of classical philology at the University of Ioannina, a position he held until 1984, with a brief interruption during the dictatorship period. From 1982 to 1984, he served as vice-president of the Center for Educational Studies and Training (KE.ME) of the Ministry of Education. Additionally, between 1981-82, he was president of the State Scholarships Foundation. Between 1988-1990, he taught at the University of Crete as a special scientist. His writing focused on the history, interpretation, critique, and translation of ancient Greek literature, as well as works by foreign academics related to it. He participated in educational seminars and regularly contributed articles to the newspaper "To Vima". He passed away on January 8, 2019, at the age of 86. For more biographical details on Fanis I.
