Areti Vasileiou

Areti Vasileiou is an Assistant Professor of Modern Greek Theatre in the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Patras, where she has been teaching since 2003. Following her undergraduate studies in Greek Philology at the University of Crete, she pursued postgraduate studies in Theatre Studies both in Greece (University of Crete) and abroad (University of Warwick, U.K.), focusing on American theatre (Tennessee Williams), as well as the history and theory of modern global and Greek theatre. She worked for seven years as a researcher in the Modern Greek Theatre Program at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies in Rethymno (Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas). Her research interests and publications in collective academic volumes, scientific journals, and proceedings of Greek and international conferences focus on the study of various aspects of 19th and 20th-century Modern Greek theatre: dramaturgy, criticism, translation, stage practice, the relationship between Modern Greek and global theatre, and the connections of Modern Greek theatre with other arts or forms of expression (cinema, dance, literature). She has published the book "Modernization or Tradition? Prose Theatre in Interwar Greece" ("Metaichmio", 2005).
