Katerina Karamitrou

Katerina Karamitrou is an Associate Professor of Classical Culture and Ancient Drama/Actress at the University of Ioannina. She studied Classical Philology, Philosophy, Drama, and Acting in England. Her doctoral dissertation is an in-depth study of Aeschylean Tragedy (fully preserved works and fragments). The author's primary academic interest focuses on the multifaceted dynamics and cultural transformations - dimensions of tragedy in general. She founded the theater group Faos with the aim of exploring the high potentials, contemporary adaptations - decryptions - interpretations of drama, and the universal power that great texts and the Greek language eternally convey. Her scientific and artistic work is primarily concerned with the ritualistic adornment of the body, mournful sensuality, introspection, madness, self-reproach, pleasurable pain, and above all, the wild, untamed, and unadulterated otherness. In addition to the monographs she has written, she has published 70 articles in international scientific journals.
