Athanasios THeodorou

Athanasios Theodorou was born in 1945 in Athens. He studied natural sciences and geography at the University of Athens and later pursued studies in Physics - Geophysics (B.Sc.), Oceanography (B.Sc.-Honours), and Physical Oceanography (M.Sc.-by research) at the University of Liverpool in England. He completed his doctoral thesis (Ph.D.) in Dynamic Oceanography at the University of East Anglia, where he taught Oceanography and Maritime Meteorology at the Hellenic Air Force Academy and Environmental Oceanography at the postgraduate level at the University of Patras. At the University of Thessaly, where he served from 1992 until his retirement in 2012, he organized and scientifically equipped the Oceanography Laboratory, supervised postgraduate and doctoral theses, and taught undergraduate courses in Oceanography, Hydrobiology, Marine Ecology, Marine Pollution, Climate Change, Maritime Meteorology, Dynamic Oceanography-Marine Ecosystems, and Mathematics. He also taught postgraduate courses in Fisheries Oceanography, Operational Oceanography, Climate Variability, and Aquatic Ecosystems. His research interests align with the subjects he has taught. He has participated in various oceanographic field research projects in Greece and abroad. He is the author of numerous research papers and review articles in international journals and conferences related to these thematic areas. He has served as a reviewer for reputable international scientific journals. His research work has gained international recognition, and in 2013 he was unanimously elected Professor Emeritus at the University of Thessaly, where he continues to teach Mathematics and Oceanography.
