Hans Blix

Hans Blix served as the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency from 1981 to 1997 and was a member of the Swedish delegation to the United Nations from 1961 to 1981. From 2000 to 2003, he was the Executive Chairman of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC), overseeing international inspections for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq until these inspections were suspended in March 2003. Blix was appointed as the chairman of the newly established International Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction, which began its work in January 2004. He resides in Sweden.
