Andrew Humphreys

Andrew Humphreys grew up in northern England and first traveled to Egypt in 1988 for a short vacation. However, he liked it so much that he decided not to return. Since then, he has divided his time between the vibrant chaos of Cairo and the grayer skies—but more orderly rhythms—of the London publishing world. As a correspondent for various publications, including "National Geographic Traveler" and "The Wall Street Journal," he has explored every inch of Egypt, sailed on Lake Nasser, watched the sunrise from Mount Sinai, and slept under the stars in the Great Sand Sea. Nevertheless, his greatest love remains Cairo, its people, and their culture. In 1997, he co-founded the English-language newspaper "The Cairo Times," thus immersing himself in the affairs of Um al-Dunya or the "Mother of the World." He has also written or contributed to several guides on Cairo and Egypt, as well as on Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and the Middle East.
