Nikolaos I. Legakis

Nikolaos-Stefanos Legakis is an Emeritus Professor of Microbiology at the Medical School of the University of Athens, Honorary President of the Hellenic Microbiological Society, and the Panhellenic Union of Medical Biopathology. He directs the Central Laboratories and serves as a Scientific Advisor at the Diagnostic Centers of the Euromedica Group, as well as a Scientific Advisor for the Laboratories of the "Iaso" Group. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1963, obtained his Doctorate in 1966, became a Lecturer in 1977, an Assistant Professor in 1982, an Associate Professor in 1991, and a Full Professor in 1995. He pursued further training in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, and the United States. He has served as President of the Hellenic Microbiological Society and the European Society of Chemotherapy and Infections, Vice President of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Supreme Health Scientific Council, and the Central Committee on Hospital Infections. He has also represented Greek Microbiology in numerous international organizations (FEMS, ESCMID, ISC). He has authored 10 scientific books and more than 200 research articles.
