Nikos Papandreou

Nikos Papandreou belongs to the generation of the Resistance. The war, the occupation, and the epic national liberation struggle of the Greek people were the most profound and shocking experiences of his adolescence. Early on, he joined one of the first guerrilla groups in Thessaly. During the post-liberation period, he faced many persecutions for his participation in the National Resistance and for his political beliefs. For the second time, he was forced to return to the mountains during the Civil War. After its conclusion, he lived abroad as a political refugee for 26 years. He studied philology at the University of Bucharest. Throughout his forced exile, he engaged in journalism, publishing in various foreign newspapers and magazines on philological topics. While abroad, he published a study on the heroic element in our folk poetry titled "Our Heroic Folk Song." He translated works from Russian by A. Fadeyev, F. Dostoevsky, and I. Turgenev. He also translated the book "Auschwitz: The Death Factory" by E. Kulka and O. Kraus.
