CHristos L. Tsolakis

Christos Tsolakis was born in 1935 in the now-abandoned village of Morna (Skotina) in the mountainous region of Pieria. After completing high school, he studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), where he was taught by Emmanuel Kriaras, Apostolos Vakalopoulos, Ioannis Kakridis, and Linos Politis. He served as a professor of Modern Greek language at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Tsolakis pursued studies in Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Thessaloniki and completed postgraduate studies at the Classical Institute of Lund University in Sweden, where he also taught Modern Greek language and literature. He worked in general education as a teacher, school counselor, and director of SELME and the PEK of Thessaloniki. He participated in committees that worked on the introduction and cultivation of the demotic language in education and public life. Until the end of his life, he was actively involved with the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Philosophy at A.U.Th., "O Philologos," and contributed articles to the magazine of the same name. He led the writing teams that, in collaboration with the KEME/Pedagogical Institute, authored the books "Modern Greek Language" for middle school and "Expression - Essay" for high school. He was engaged in issues related to language, language teaching, and teacher training. Christos Tsolakis passed away in July 2012 at the age of 77 due to a myocardial infarction.
