Giorgos Kentas

George Kentas is an Assistant Professor of International Relations in the Department of European Studies and International Relations at the University of Nicosia. In addition to his teaching and research duties, he serves as the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in International Relations and European Studies and the Coordinator of the Master's Program in Public Administration. He studied political science at the University of Cyprus (BA in Political Science, 2001), International Relations at the University of Kent (MA in International Relations, 2002), and Political Science at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Ph.D. in Political Science, 2009). His research interests include the philosophy and theory of social sciences, international political theory, the organization of violence in the international relations system, the foreign policy and security policy of the European Union, and the security aspects of the Cypriot state. From 2002 to 2004, he worked as a research associate at the Research and Development Center, later known as the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs. Since 2007, he has been teaching in the Department of European Studies and International Relations at the University of Nicosia. From September 2007 to January 2008, he taught in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus. Since 2007, he has been lecturing at the Free University of Citizens in Cyprus and abroad. He is a member of the Nordic International Studies Association and has worked as a research associate in EU-CONSENT and FORNET, two scientific networks funded by the European Commission. He has also collaborated with the European Council on Foreign Relations on issues related to the participation of the Republic of Cyprus in the EU's European Security and Defense Policy. He has published articles in scientific journals and books and is also a co-editor of books.
