Serafeim D. Fyntanidis

Seraphim Fyntanidis (1937-2014) was born in the western suburbs of Athens, in Peristeri, to parents who were refugees from Constantinople. In 1960, he graduated from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He had already begun his career as a journalist at the newspaper "Ethnos" in 1957, initially working without pay and later as a salaried editor after completing his military service. During the Junta period, from 1968 to 1974, he worked at "Apogevmatini," first as a content manager and later as editor-in-chief. From 1974 until June 1976, he served as the editorial director of "Akropolis." From June 1976 to April 27, 2007, he took on the role of director at the newspaper "Eleftherotypia." After the death of its publisher, Kitsos Tegopoulos, he disagreed with the successors of the newspaper's ownership and departed. Subsequently, he collaborated briefly with television as a show host ("Sunday with Seraphim Fyntanidis" on "Skai" between 2007-2008, "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, with Seraphim Fyntanidis" on state television between 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, and "Groups Write History," again on state television between 2010-2011). In April 2013, he became the director of the short-lived newspaper "6 Days," and in September of the same year, he assumed the role of chairman of the board at the newly established TV station E-Channel, with the logo "E." He passed away in Athens on December 26, 2014, at the age of 77, following complications from heart surgery. He was a member of the Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA). He published the books: "Escape to Four Continents" (Kastaniotis, 2002) and "31 Unforgettable Years at the Wooden Helm of Eleftherotypia and the Sunday E" (Patakis, 2014).
