Spyros Kouzinopoulos

Spyros Kouzinopoulos was born in the city of Serres in 1947. Over his forty-five-year career in journalism, he worked for various newspapers, radio, and television stations in Thessaloniki and Athens as a reporter, editor-in-chief, and editorial director. He also served as a correspondent for the French News Agency in Northern Greece for fifteen years, focusing on the Balkan region. Due to his ideas and articles, he was arrested, tortured, and imprisoned by the Junta. In 1974, he was a parliamentary candidate with the United Left in the Serres region. He was a member of the board of the Journalists' Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers (ESIEMTH) and participated in international journalism conferences and meetings. He was honored with medals and awards for his contribution to Balkan cooperation and his support to the Greek diaspora. His idea led to the creation of the Macedonian News Agency in 1991, where he served as general director until his retirement in December 2008. In 1994, he founded the Association of Balkan News Agencies, where he served as general secretary for fifteen years. His published books include: "The Heroic May of Thessaloniki" (1976), "Turkey Dossier" (1983), "'Eleftheria' - The Unknown History of the First Underground Organization and Newspaper of the Occupation" (1986), "The Execution of Peace (The Nikiforidis Case)" (1988), "The Great Leap: The Liberation of Thessaloniki" (1997), "Georgi Dimitrov - Pages from the Secret Diary" (1999), "The Alois Brunner Case - The Executioner of the Jews of Thessaloniki" (2005), "Behind the Scenes of the Macedonian Issue (Testimonies of Protagonists, Unknown Documents and Records)" (2008), "Drama 1941, a Misunderstood Uprising" (2011). The latter was nominated for the State Literary Award in 2012.
