Elizabeth Gaskell

Mrs. Gaskell (Elizabeth Gaskell, née Stevenson) was born in 1810 in Chelsea, London. In 1832, she married William Gaskell, a clergyman who was also a writer. In 1848, she anonymously published her first novel titled "Mary Barton." Other works of hers include "Cranford" (1853) and "North and South" (1854). She became particularly well-known for her ghost stories, which her friend Charles Dickens published in his magazine "Household Words." She passed away in 1865 in Holybourne.
