Sitsa Karaiskaki

Sitsa Karaïskaki was born in Moschonisia, Asia Minor, and fled as a refugee in 1922, settling in Mytilene. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy in Munich and continued her studies at the universities of Prague, Zurich, Vienna, and Berlin. Meanwhile, she was writing. Her first work was published in 1925, a poetry collection titled "The Sinful Companion," which was enthusiastically received. In 1930, when Hitler rose to power, Sitsa Karaïskaki served as an advisor at the Ministry of Propaganda. During that time, her book "The Third Reich Through My Eyes" was published in German, detailing events of the era and achievements of the National Socialist government. In 1939, her book "The Son of the Nun" was published in Greece by "Estia," presenting the life and actions of her ancestor and hero of the Greek Revolution, Georgios Karaiskakis. This book, which quickly became a literary success, established Karaïskaki's reputation in Greek literature. Following the establishment of EON by Metaxas, she became a principal columnist for the magazine "Youth." For several years, she wrote for the magazine "O Noumas." She continued to write literary and scientific studies and articles for various magazines and newspapers. She was actively involved throughout Europe and believed in the unity, understanding, and cooperation of European nations. She married a German and lived in Germany for several years. She wrote poems, novels, short stories, studies, articles, and sociological analyses in both Greek and German. Her work received very positive reviews, and she was awarded numerous honors in Greece and abroad, including the Goethe Plaque from the Goethe Society in Germany. In 1963, after the death of her husband, she returned to Greece, where she dedicated herself to literature. She passed away in Athens on April 30, 1987.
