Andreas Pappas

Andreas Pappas has been professionally involved in translation and text editing since 1969. From 1977 to 1993, he served as the director of Ypodomi Publishing. As an editor, editor-in-chief, and translator, he has collaborated with institutions such as the Athens Concert Hall, the Athens Festival, the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation (MIET), the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), the National Book Centre of Greece (EKEBI), the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASKT), as well as several publishing houses (Agra, Adam, Gnosis, Kastaniotis, Kritiki, Nefeli, University of Crete Press, Polis, Savvalas, Smili, etc.). He has translated works by E.H. Carr, Lord Acton, Herbert Read, Erwin Panofsky, Ernst Gombrich, Frederick Antal, E.P. Kazdan, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Alexis de Tocqueville, Victor Hugo, Henri Troyat, among others. In 1999, his book "Between Gutenberg and Marx: 30 Years with a Marker and 4B Pencil" was published by Ypodomi Publishing. In 2004-5, "Hypoglossia" (Volumes A & B) was released by Kastaniotis, featuring his writings on language. From 2002 to 2010, he taught translation and the use of the Greek language at the European Centre for Translation (EKEMEL). From 2002 to 2004, he wrote the column "Hypoglossia" in the "Books" supplement of the newspaper To Vima on Sunday, and from 2007 to 2009, the column "Intermedia" in the "Library" supplement of the newspaper Eleftherotypia. He collaborates with publications such as "Athens Voice," "Athens Review of Books," and "Book's Journal."
