Filon o Alexandreys

Philo was a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher from the early 1st century AD. He hailed from Alexandria, a major center of the Jewish diaspora and simultaneously a hub of Greek culture. He identified himself with the Greeks, had Greek as his native language, received a specialized philosophical and philological education, and wrote in the Attic style. His works, some of which have been lost, are generally divided into purely philosophical writings, commentaries on the Pentateuch, treatises related to the Jewish religion, and apologetic works. Philo's significance is substantial for the history of Christianity. His writings provide valuable insights into the religious life of Hellenized Jews of the diaspora during the time of Christ and the apostles. The excerpts from lost works of Greek authors included in his writings, as well as the borrowings from Greek philosophy as a whole and mystical theology, make his works a valuable source for philological, philosophical, and theological research.
