Jean Clair

Jean Clair (real name: Gerard Regnier) was born in Paris in 1940. An art historian, essayist, art curator, and recently a member of the French Academy, Jean Clair served for many years as the director of the Picasso Museum and directed the Venice Biennale in 1995. Among his numerous works is the catalog of "Balthus." He has periodically headed several museums in France and was the commissioner of significant national exhibitions, including those for Duchamp and Balthus. The exhibition "Melancholy: Genius and Madness in the West," held at the Grand Palais in 2005-2006, garnered global attention. His presence in Greece is associated with exhibitions and catalogs at the B. & E. Goulandris Museum in Andros, where he curated the Delvaux exhibition in the summer of 2009.
