THeokritos (300-260 p.CH)

Theocritus was one of the most significant poets of the Hellenistic period, a pioneer of bucolic poetry that flourished around the 3rd century BC. We do not have much information about the life of Theocritus, and what we do know comes mainly from his own work. The most likely period of his birth is considered to be around 300 BC, as his prime coincided with the 124th Olympiad (284 - 280 BC). Regarding his place of origin, a widely accepted view is that he was born in Syracuse, a notion that seems to be confirmed by his work itself (Idyll XXVIII, lines 16-18). It is also very likely that he lived in Kos, Alexandria, and Egypt during the time of Ptolemy II
