Kleio Gougouli

Kleio Gougouli is a Social Anthropologist and a collaborator with the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation and the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation. She studied Philology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens, Folklore at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (postgraduate seminar by A. Kyriakidou-Nestoros and E. Skouteri-Didaskalou), and Social Anthropology at University College London (MSc and PhD). She has taught at the Universities of the Peloponnese, Thessaloniki, the Aegean, and Thrace, as well as at the Hellenic Open University, Panteion University, and the Kindergarten Teachers' Training School of the University of Athens. In November 2011, she was elected Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural Heritage Management and New Technologies at the University of Western Greece. Her research interests and publications focus on the anthropology of childhood and play, with a particular emphasis on issues of materiality. Recently, in collaboration with historian Lida Papastefanaki, she completed research for the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) on the art of tinplate craftsmanship in Greece during the 20th century. She has edited three interdisciplinary collective volumes on children's play and two volumes on material culture topics.
