Nausica Panseleinou was born in Lidoriki, Phocis, and spent her childhood and teenage years in Lamia. She studied at the University of Athens' Faculty of Philosophy, in the Department of History and Archaeology, on a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.). From 1966 to 1972, she lived in Paris. As a scholarship recipient from the French government, she completed her dissertation under the supervision of Professor Andre Grabar, a historian of Byzantine Art and academician. In 1971, she earned a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Paris (Pantheon-Sorbonne) with honors. She furthered her studies at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London (1991-1992). She worked as a researcher at the Center for Sociology of Art (Pierre Francastel) in Paris (1970-1972), contributed to the writing of the History of the Greek Nation for Ekdotiki Athinon (1972-1973), served as a scientific associate at the Byzantine Museum of Athens (1973-1976), and has been teaching at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where she is currently an associate professor. She contributed writings to the celebratory volume Athens School of Fine Arts - One Hundred and Fifty Years, 1837-1987 (Athens 1990). She has also published articles on Byzantine art in scientific journals. She is a member of the Christian Archaeological Society and the Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art (International Association of Art Critics).
