Eythymios Papataxiarchis

Euthymios Papataxiarchis studied Social Sciences at the University of Athens and Social Anthropology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the London School of Economics, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1988. Since 1987, he has been teaching at the Department of Social Anthropology and History at the University of the Aegean. His major works include: (co-edited with M. Komninou) "Community, Society, and Ideology" (Athens 1990), (co-edited with P. Loizos) "Contested Identities: Gender and Kinship in Modern Greece" (Princeton 1991), (co-edited with Th. Paradelellis) "Identities and Gender in Contemporary Greece" (Athens 1992), (co-edited with Th. Paradelellis) "Anthropology and the Past: Contributions to the Social History of Modern Greece" (Athens 1993). He has written articles on kinship, social gender, the cultural construction of identity, and the theory of Social Anthropology.
