Giorgos A. Giannakopoulos

George Giannakopoulos was born in Athens in 1959. He studied Library Science at the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Athens, Political Science at Panteion University, and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Athens. His doctoral dissertation, spanning two volumes, covers the fields of modern political history, history of ideas, bibliography, and book science. For fifteen years, he served as a scientific associate at the Center for Asia Minor Studies, where he was responsible for the Library and Archives, a researcher, and deputy director of the institution. In 2002, he was elected Director of the General State Archives, a position he held until the end of 2004, when he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Library Science and Information Systems at the T.E.I. of Athens. Before his appointment, he was an adjunct scientific associate in the department for twelve years. He also served as President of the Board of the Union of Greek Librarians, a member of the Board of the National Book Center, and a member of international archival committees and councils. Currently, he is the Head of the Department of Library Science and Information Systems, Deputy Director of the School of Management and Economics, and a member of the Education and Research Committee at the T.E.I. of Athens. Alongside his educational and administrative duties, he teaches in the postgraduate program "Information Science - Management and Organization of Libraries with an Emphasis on New Information Technologies," organized by the Department of Archival and Library Sciences of the Ionian University in collaboration with the Department of Library Science and Information Systems of the T.E.I. of Athens. Additionally, since the academic year 2001-2002, he has been a member of the Collaborating Educational Personnel of the Hellenic Open University in the thematic unit of Greek History. He has published numerous studies (monographs, articles in scientific journals, and collective volumes) and has edited the publication of scientific collective works and luxurious albums.
