Nikolaos K. Petropoulos

Dr. Nikolaos K. Petropoulos (b. 1967) has been the official translator for the Archbishop of Athens since 2004. A philologist and the son of two philologist educators, he holds a D.Phil. (1996) and a Master's (M.St. 1990) from the University of Oxford in European and Modern Greek Literature. He graduated top of his class with a degree in Classical Philology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1989) and was an honors graduate of the Varvakeio Model School (1985). He is a foreign language trainer for the Hellenic Parliament as a member of the teaching staff at the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (E.K.D.D.A.). He was a scholar of the British Academy (1991-1993), the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (1991-1994), the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.) (1986-1989), the Fulbright Foundation (1991), Princeton University (Summer Seminar in Classical Studies 1988), New York University (Butler Fellowship, 1991), and the Alliance Francaise (1985). He has taught in secondary education (Athens College and Psychiko College, 1998-2002), at the National School of Public Administration (I.N.E.P. and E.S.D.D.A., 2005-2008), and since 2000, he has specialized as a certified adult educator (E.O.P.P.E.P.) in centers preparing candidates for language exams for competitions of the National School of Public Administration, National School of Judges, ASEP educational competitions (philologists), Ministries, Banks, etc. As an author with independent publications and contributions to collective volumes, a translator and interpreter from and into English and French, and an editor, he has collaborated with institutions, foundations, and publishing houses in Greece and the United Kingdom (Benaki Museum, Gennadius Library, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of National Defense, E.S.H.E.A., Blackwell Publishers, among others). In 2006-2007, his translations were also posted on the official website of the Vatican—the first texts on this site in the Greek language.
