Ntinos S. Koumpatis

Dinos Koumpatis was born in Athens, grew up in Heraklion, Crete, and excelled in Belgium and France as a theater director, earning international awards for his directorial work, such as the International Ionesco Theater Award in 1977. He studied Theater and French Philology, holds a mime diploma from the world-renowned Drama School of Jacques Lecoq, and a PhD in Byzantine Studies from the University of Valencia. He is fluent in English, French, and Italian. At least fifteen of his plays have been staged, and he has directed over seventy theatrical productions, collaborating with true legends of Greek and international theater, such as Miranda Myrat, Andreas Barkoulis, Eugène Ionesco, Marguerite Duras, Jean-Paul Sartre, among others. In the theater world, he founded the "Dinos Koumpatis Experimental Stage," the Experimental Theater Center, and the Ionian Theater Organization. His works have also been broadcast on Greek radio, and he has directed for television in "Theater of Monday" and "War Stories." He has participated in international theater festivals. Today, he leads the Salamina Theater Workshop and the "Theater of Koulouri." He began his journalism career in Heraklion, Crete, from his first year of high school and collaborated with many newspapers, serving as editor for "Enimerotiki," "Athenian Neighborhoods," and "Piraeus Press." He worked with numerous magazines and published "Theatrical Thymeli," "Psycho," "Philological Voice," and "Greek-Albanian Letters." Currently, he publishes the newspapers "The Voice of Salamina" and "Municipal Edge," as well as the literary magazine "Quarios." He has worked in radio as a show producer, director, and news bulletin manager with many radio stations and operated the radio station "The Voice of Salamina" for fourteen years. Serving the Arts, he has engaged in every literary genre, writing Poetry, Essays, Fairy Tales, Theater, and Novels. As the founder of the cultural association "The Café of Ideas," based in Salamina, he has managed to gather the intellectual elite from all over Greece and abroad. He has been honored with numerous awards and gold medals, including those from the French Academy of Letters, the International Ionesco Award, the International Organization for Culture UNESCO, among others, and is a member of dozens of associations and organizations. In 2007, he was declared an Honorary Doctor of Byzantine Studies at the University of Valencia and an Honorary Academic Member at the Felgueiras Academy in Portugal. Dinos Koumpatis is a prolific writer. His works have been translated into French, English, Polish, Hindi, Spanish, Serbian, and Albanian, and are currently being translated into Romanian, having been included in Greek and international anthologies. His latest book in French was published in early 2011 in Paris by the French publisher EdiLivre under the title "Faute d'Amour."
