Edmund R. Leach

Professor Sir Edmund Leach (1910-1989) studied at Marlborough College and Clare College, University of Cambridge, and served in Burma during World War II. He taught anthropology first at the London School of Economics and then at Cambridge. He was a Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Cambridge from 1972 to 1978 and served as Provost at King's College, Cambridge from 1966 to 1979. He was twice Vice-President and later President of the Royal Anthropological Institute (from 1971 to 1975). In addition to his strictly academic works on anthropology, he wrote many other books and reviews, and delivered numerous lectures and radio broadcasts.
