Alkis Rigos

Alkis Rigos was born in Athens in 1946. He studied Political Science at Panteion University and earned his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1987, with a dissertation titled "Social Dimensions of the Political Scene in the Second Hellenic Republic (1924-1935)." Since 1975, he has been teaching Political Science, Greek Politics, and Social Movements at the Department of Political Science and History at Panteion University, initially as a scientific assistant and later as a member of the Teaching and Research Staff. He currently serves as an associate professor in the same department. From 2001 to 2003, he was elected head of the department and is a member of the Senate of Panteion University. He is also a member of the Hellenic Political Science Association, serving on its Board of Directors since 1994 and as General Secretary from 1998 to 2000, as well as on the Editorial Board of the Political Science Review. Among his various participations in scientific societies, associations, and citizen groups, he is a member of the Hellenic League for Human Rights. He collaborates with the Network of Movements for Political Rights, the Movement Against Racism, and the Social Support Network for Refugees and Immigrants. He is a founding member of the "Theophilos Veikos Association for Critical Thinking and Philosophical Education" and the "Friends of the Sakis Karagiorgas Foundation." He actively participates in political and social events, particularly in university trade union activities. His major works include: - "The Second Hellenic Republic 1924-1935. His articles on topics of Greek politics, ideology, social and political rights, information economy, and mass media, as well as labor, women's, and student movements, and the public university institution, have been published in collective volumes, scientific journals, and the daily and periodical press across the political spectrum. He has participated in scientific and political broadcasts on various radio and television media and has served as a historical consultant for a total of 25 documentary episodes on the Greek interwar period (1922-1941) on state television. He was the scientific director of research at the Pedagogical Institute for the Intercultural Approach to the subject "Elements of Democratic Governance with an Emphasis on Social Rights." The research results (a questionnaire on students' racist or non-racist perceptions) and educational materials (videos, educational games, posters, teaching methods, etc.) have been submitted to the Pedagogical Institute. Additionally, he has participated as: - A member of the evaluation committee of the Pedagogical Institute for the assessment of the textbook "Social and Political Organization in Ancient Greece." - The head of the evaluation committee for the assessment of CD-ROM aids for the Political Science course for the third year of junior high school. He has published a series of book reviews and book introductions, with the most recent being the introduction and editing (with G. Athanasatou and G. [incomplete]). Seferiadis has contributed to the collective volume: "The Dictatorship 1967 - 1974. Political Practices - Ideological Discourse - Resistance" [Kastaniotis] Athens 1999, which includes his article titled "Student Movement and Dictatorship". He co-authored the introduction and edited, along with Konstantinos Tsoukalas, the collective volume of the Hellenic Political Science Association: "Politics Today. Nicos Poulantzas and the Relevance of His Work" [Themelio] Athens 2001. He also wrote the preface for Smyrnis K: "Labor News and Workers" [A.A Livanis] Athens 2001. Concurrently, he oversees the work of doctoral candidates and has participated as a member of three-member advisory committees and doctoral dissertation evaluation committees, not only in the Department of Political Science and History but also in the Department of Media and Communication at Panteion University and at the Universities of Ioannina and Crete. He is also involved in electoral bodies for the selection of faculty members at Panteion University and the Universities of Thessaloniki, Ioannina, and Patras. During a sabbatical, he collaborated with the School of Economics and Political Science at the University of London and the Department of Turkish Studies at the University of Cyprus. He has actively participated in the Organizing Committees of dozens of International and Greek Conferences, presided over sessions, and delivered numerous scientific presentations at these and other conferences on topics related to Greek Politics, the Labor Movement, the Information Economy, the University as a Public Institution, and the Student Movement.
