Vaso PSaraki

Vasso Psaraki was born in 1945 in Athens. She studied at the Vakalo School of Fine Arts. She worked in graphic arts and since 1978 has dedicated herself to illustrating children's books. She has held three solo exhibitions in Athens, and one each in Patras, Chania, and Nicosia, and has participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Japan, Iran, Portugal, England, Switzerland, Belgium). In 1986, she was a candidate for the Andersen Award in illustration. In 1988, her illustrations were awarded by the Circle of the Greek Children's Book. In 1989, her work received the Pier Paolo Vergerio honorary distinction from the University of Padua. In 1990, she designed the IBBY poster for International Children's Book Day 1991, which was distributed worldwide. In 1993, she won second prize at the Tehran International Illustration Exhibition for her cover of Maro Loizou's book "It Was and It Wasn't." In 1993 and 1995, UNICEF released cards for Europe featuring her designs. In 1994, her poster with the theme "With a Book I Fly" was awarded and printed by the Ministry of Culture. In 1997, she worked on costumes, sets, and constructions for 14 television episodes titled "Fairy Tales - Enter the Magic of the Book," produced by the National Book Center and the Ministry of Culture, to promote reading. In 1998, she was honored with the State Illustration Award for the book "The Night Visitor" by Melina Karakosta. She is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece and the Circle of the Greek Children's Book.
