Sonia Ilinskaya

Sonia Ilinskaya was born in 1938 in Moscow. She studied classical philology at Lomonosov Moscow State University, with a concurrent specialization in Modern Greek and Russian philology. She has been involved in the dissemination, study, and translation of contemporary Greek literature. She has been elected a regular member of the Union of Soviet Writers as a critic and translator of Modern Greek Literature. In 1971, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic "Contribution to the Study of Post-War Poetry in Greece: The Fate of a Generation." Until 1983, she was a researcher at the Institute of Slavic and Balkan Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1983, for family reasons (since 1959, she has been married to the Greek novelist Mitsos Alexandropoulos), she permanently relocated to Greece. She is a professor of Modern Greek Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina.
