
Guy Burgel
Guy Burgel is a professor at Paris X - Nanterre University, where he founded the Urban Geography Laboratory and established the collection of comparative studies Villes en Parallèle (Parallel Cities, currently 40 issues). He is the author of approximately twenty books, with the most recent being "La revanche des villes," Hachette 2006; "Université, une misère française," Hachette 2006; and "Dossier Paris," Perrin 2008. From the beginning of his career, he has focused on Greece, with works such as "Athens, the Development of a Mediterranean Capital," Exantas 1978; "The Modern Greek City," Exantas 1989; and "Greece Facing the Third Millennium," Panteion University 2001. His contribution to the collective work "Histoire de l'Europe urbaine" (Seuil, 2003) is a significant addition to understanding the last fifty years that have transformed the face of the cities on the European continent: demographic growth, regional development, architectural advancements, architectural innovations, the end of industrialization, globalization, and the increase of social and political risks.
