Ageliki A. Giannikopoulou

Angeliki Giannikopoulou was born in Athens in 1964. She studied literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and pedagogy at the Athens School of Early Childhood Education. In 1989, she earned a Master of Education (M.Ed) from the University of Hull (England), and in 1992, she obtained her Ph.D. from the same university with her dissertation titled "Aesop's Fables and the Education of Children with Special Reference to Ages Four to Six." She focuses on topics related to literacy introduction (she has created a portal with relevant educational material for kindergarten teachers at http://www.rhodes.aegean.gr/tepaes/ekpaideutiko_iliko.html), multiliteracies, interdisciplinary approaches, and primarily on illustrated children's books and the teaching of literature in kindergarten. She contributes articles to scientific journals, and her book "Fables and Children: Form and Function" is published in England. Her interests include the illustration of children's books, storytelling issues, the reception and understanding of fairy tales, as well as (pre)reading topics. She is an associate professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Athens.
