Giorgos Karampelias

Giorgos Karabelias was born in Dymi, Achaia. Since 1964, as a medical student, he participated in the Lambrakis Youth and in 1966 became politically active outside of parliamentary parties. He was imprisoned by the dictatorship in May-June 1967. He studied Economics in Paris, where he wrote his first books. He was involved in the anti-dictatorship movement and the events of May '68, participating in Greek and French organizations, and was arrested in November 1973 for actions in solidarity with the Polytechnic uprising. After the restoration of democracy, he continued his political activities in Greece without interruption. From 1989 to 1992, he participated in the Ecologists-Alternatives. He served as Director of Education at KETHEA. In 1988, he completed postgraduate work at Paris VII University titled "State and Society in the Post-Junta Period," which was also published in Greek. From 1979 to 1993, he published the magazine "Rixi." In 1980, he co-founded the "Alternative Bookstore" and "Alternative Publications." Since 1995, he has been on the Editorial Committee of the magazine "Ardin" and since November 2006 on the Editorial Committee of the newspaper "Rixi." Since 2010, he has also been a member of the Editorial Committee of the magazine "Neos Ermis o Logios." He has written more than twenty books and hundreds of articles and studies.
