Marianos D. Karasis

He was born in Malakati, in the Trikala region, in 1940. He holds a degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Athens and a doctorate from the Faculty of Law at the Free University of Berlin. He has served as a lecturer and professor of Civil Law at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is now an emeritus professor at the same university. In February 2004, he was elected and inducted as a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens. In March 2007, he was awarded the "Panagiotis Foteas Award" for his body of work. His writing extends beyond Civil Law to the general theory (philosophy and methodology) of law, as well as to topics at the boundaries of law, including philosophical (epistemological, ethical, aesthetic) and theological issues.
