Manos S. Stefanidis

Manos Stefanidis was born in Piraeus in 1954. He studied archaeology at the University of Athens and furthered his education at the Kunstmuseum in Düsseldorf and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. He holds a doctorate from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). For 25 years, he served as a curator at the National Gallery of Greece. In 2004, he was elected as a lecturer at the University of Athens, and in 2005, he became a member of the Society of Authors. In 2006, he was elected as an associate professor at AUTH but did not accept the position. Today, he teaches Art History in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Athens, in the Department of Theatre Studies. In 1990, he was the commissioner for Greece at the Venice Biennale. Since 1985, he has been a member of the International Association of Art Critics (A.I.C.A.). He organized and directed the National Gallery's branch in Corfu (1990-1995) and the private Frissiras Museum (2000-2002). He has taught postgraduate seminars at the University of Athens, Ionian University, Panteion University, and the Athens School of Fine Arts, as well as at the School of Tourist Guides and AKTO. For years, he has written art critiques and columns for "Kathimerini," "To Vima," "Ethnos," "Eleftherotypia," "Eleftheros Typos," and the magazine "Anti." He collaborates with literary magazines such as "To Dentro," "I Lexi," "Revma," "Mandragoras," and "(de)kata." He has hosted numerous television programs on state television, ANT1, and SevenX, as well as radio programs on the Third Programme and Kokkino 105.5. He has organized art seminars at the Archaeological Society, the Hellenic American Union, and Booze Cooperativa.
