Dale E. Bredesen

Dale Bredesen is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts in the field of neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, such as Alzheimer's disease. He graduated from Caltech, the California Institute of Technology, and then earned his medical degree from Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. His research has led to new insights explaining the memory deterioration observed in Alzheimer's, paving the way for a new therapeutic approach. He has also contributed to the identification of several new potential therapeutic agents that are currently in preclinical trials. His work on neuronal signaling is also at the core of the collaboration between the Buck Institute and BioMarin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., which is seeking treatments for a rare form of Alzheimer's disease, early-onset familial Alzheimer's disease (eFAD), which can manifest even in individuals as young as 30 years old.
